Abby Carlin studies a widely used class of fungicides that controls the growth of fungal pathogens on crops such as corn and soybeans. Her work spans from the laboratory to the field, as she applies state-of-the-art analytical chemical tools to understand how these fungicides break down in the environment. She also analyzes the resulting products that form when the fungicides degrade. Overall, her work is elucidating how these substances may impact human and aquatic health as well as the environment.
A recipient of a Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation, Carlin’s career goal is to continue conducting research as an environmental chemist at a national laboratory.
