Farheen Fauziya, Postdoctoral scholar, electrical and computer engineering
Advances ocean resiliency
Hometown: Kako, Bihar, India
Faculty mentor: Ananya Sen Gupta, PhD, associate professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering
Farheen Fauziya studies ocean modeling and underwater acoustic communication, the process of using sound waves to send and receive messages underwater. She analyzes and interprets underwater sound waves and utilizes artificial intelligence tools in two separate areas of focus. Fauziya is currently studying how shifts in climate affect groundwater levels and is developing tools to predict groundwater fluctuations and contaminant risks in India’s Ganga River Basin. She is also using similar methods to enhance how sonar systems detect underwater targets to make underwater exploration more reliable. Fauziya’s research supports broader efforts to create more resilient ocean and coastal communities.
Fauziya plans to secure a position as an assistant professor, mentoring students and collaborating with other scientists to create a strong research community.
