Pain as an inevitable part of growing older. Bones are more fragile, muscles weaken and become more prone to injury, and even simple tasks can make joints ache. When diseases like cancer are added to the mix, the elderly can find pain unbearable. That’s why for more than 25 years, Keela Herr has been conducting research to improve the way pain in elderly patients is assessed and treated, up to and including end of life care. She is leading a national effort to provide best practice tools and resources to improve pain care for older adults in long term care settings (www.GeriatricPain.org).
