Dare to Understand Undergraduates

Nicholas Bowman

Appointment(s):

Associate Professor, Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies
Director, Center for Research on Undergraduate Education (CRUE)

College(s): Education

Higher education is more than just a private good, says Nicholas Bowman. It’s a public good as well. As director of the Center for Research on Undergraduate Education, Bowman is looking at what value there is in a college degree and why some students start but never complete college. His findings – that people with a college degree are better able to get jobs, have better health, exercise moral reasoning, are civically active, and can positively sway the thoughts and opinions of peers – were recently highlighted in the UI College of Education alumni magazine and the Chronicle of Higher Education. When we have a more educated society, everyone benefits.
