Brian Hand’s research delves into the use of language as a learning tool to improve students’ understanding of science. Hand is involved with the “Science Writing Heuristic,” a new approach to learning science that emphasizes writing as a learning tool, beneficial to students from five-years-old to undergraduate chemistry students. As a former high school teacher, Hand has a deep interest in improving opportunities for student learning in all science classrooms.
