As part of the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics, Colleen Campbell, a certified genetic counselor, works to educate all Iowans on human genetics and bring precision medicine, along with more genetic tests, to Iowa. By analyzing DNA from a blood sample, genetic tests can tell whether a patient will metabolize a certain type of drug. By knowing this information in advance, physicians can select the most effective therapy for their patients, leading to a more efficient health care system. Campbell helps educate and counsel physicians to help them integrate these tests into their practices.
