Whether rural, urban or somewhere in between, we all strive for communities that meet our social, economic and environmental needs. As a community planner and historian, Charles Connerly has a unique take on how to build a community that will thrive generation after generation. To that end, in 2009 Connerly founded the UI Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities which works with small and medium-size communities in Iowa to partner with university resources including: urban and regional planning, public health, engineering, business, geoscience, art and art history, journalism and mass communications, and geographical and sustainability sciences. From 2011-2013, Chuck served as President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, the national learned society of planning schools, faculty, and students in the United States.
