Sandra Daack-Hirsch never loses sight of the human side of her research on genetic disorders. She is a strong advocate for prenatal and newborn screenings in Iowa which equip parents, educators and providers to help children born with congenital and inherited disorders live healthy, flourishing lives. In 2012, Daack-Hirsch served as the environmental and public health ambassador for the State Hygienic Laboratory which processes prenatal and newborn screenings across Iowa. Currently, she is the principle investigator on a National Institutes of Health grant studying provider communication and patient perspectives on genetic risks for type 2 diabetes.
