Antitrust laws are written in flexible terms to account for future technologies not even imagined and rely on independent scholarship to provide synthesis, guiding principles and a logical legal framework to inform judicial and regulatory action. Herb Hovenkamp’s careful observation, interpretation and gentle advocacy of antitrust laws have informed Supreme Court decisions and profoundly shaped the evolution of competition policies in the United States. Hovenkamp is one of the most widely cited antitrust scholars and is senior author of the Antitrust Law treatise which is considered the antitrust law’s gold standard among scholars, jurists and practitioners.
