Treating cardiovascular disease is riddled with risks. Whether weighing a surgical option or inserting a medical device like a stent, Sarah Vigmostad is developing a computer modeling system that allows providers to better understand how various medical procedures and devices will affect individual patients. Using advanced computational tools that simulate blood flow and physiology in both healthy and a patient’s diseased conditions, Vigmostad equips patients and providers to make better decisions today while giving medical-device designers the tools to build more effective products for tomorrow.
