Dare to Choreograph Grace

Eloy Barragán

Appointment(s):

Associate Professor, Dance

College(s): Liberal Arts & Sciences

Throughout his career, Eloy Barragán has stretched the boundaries of dance. In addition to presenting his own contemporary choreographic dance work for legendary scenarios such as the Bolshoi Theatre and the Conservatoire de Paris, he pushed ballet out of the theatre and into the eye of the camera and uses alternative spaces such as the Art Building West – Library and Gallery and the Van Allen roof top observatory.  As founder and director of the International Iowa ScreenDance Festival in 2016, Barragán showcased this genre of dance made exclusively for the camera in which artistic movement is the central theme of the story and is the primary expressive element in the work.
