Dare to Share Whitman

Ed Folsom

Ed Folsom, Ph.D.

Appointment(s):

Roy J. Carver Professor of English
Professor, Center for the Book
Co-director, The Walt Whitman Archive

College(s): Graduate College and Liberal Arts & Sciences

Co-directed by Ed Folsom, the Walt Whitman Archive was one of the first major digital humanities projects and is still a global gold standard. The project works to make Whitman’s vast, frequently edited work (Leaves of Grass went through six markedly different print editions) freely and conveniently accessible to scholars, students, and general readers. In keeping with this philosophy of open source scholarship, Folsom and Christopher Merrill, director of the International Writing Program, regularly offer free online courses to share their research, most recently about Whitman and the American Civil War.
