The Midwest has deep Latino roots, and since 2000, a population swell has brought a significant number of Latinos into the region. As co-founder of the Latina/o Studies minor, Claire Fox and her co-editors have developed a teachable anthology that explores the Latino cultural contributions to the Midwest titled The Latino Midwest Reader, forthcoming from the University of Illinois Press. The book is a deep look at Latino Midwesterner’ impact on urban labor history, rural place-making, social movements, religion, literature, performance, and popular culture.
